BTS Jimin's 'Who' Named 2024's Representative K-pop Song by U.S. Media COS for 'Biggest Impact'
BTS's Jimin continues to shine on the global stage as his song Who, the title track of his second solo album MUSE, was named the "Biggest Impact" in the 2024 K-pop Yearbook by the renowned U.S. music media outlet Consequence of Sound (COS).
COS stated, “Listing all the records set by Who could take an entire day. It is the most streamed song by a K-pop artist on Spotify this year and holds the record for the longest-charting song by a Korean solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 in the past decade.” The media outlet emphasized the ripple effect of Jimin's artistry, describing it as a powerful wave resonating globally.
Released in July, Who debuted at No. 14 on Billboard's Hot 100 and has climbed the charts repeatedly, now ranking No. 43 on the latest chart as of December 21, marking its 21st consecutive week on the chart. This achievement breaks a decade-long record for K-pop soloists. Furthermore, on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, Who surpassed 1 billion streams within just 118 days of release, making Jimin the fastest male solo artist to reach this milestone. By December 16, the track had reached 1.2 billion streams, setting yet another record for the shortest time taken by a K-pop artist.
This unprecedented success carried over to Spotify’s year-end campaign, with Who ranking as the No. 1 "Global Top K-pop Song of the Year" in the 2024 Wrapped year-end chart, cementing its position as the most streamed K-pop song globally in 2024.
COS also praised Jimin’s performance, highlighting, “One of the many elements that make Jimin a captivating performer is his broad artistic spectrum. His performances seamlessly combine contemporary dance, ballet, and the hip-hop vibe of BTS tracks, creating an enchanting presence on stage.” They further lauded his ability to deliver intense choreography from start to finish while showcasing strong and confident vocals.
Jimin’s Who has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the global music scene in 2024, reaffirming his unparalleled talent and influence.
