BTS's "Dynamite" Becomes the First K-Pop Song to Surpass 2 Billion Streams on Spotify

Global superstar group BTS (RM, Jin, Jimin, J-Hope, Suga, V, Jungkook) has once again made history with their hit song "Dynamite."

According to Big Hit Music on January 14, BTS’s digital single "Dynamite," released on August 21, 2020, has surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify as of January 12. This achievement makes BTS the first K-pop group to reach the 2-billion-stream milestone on Spotify with a single track.

"Dynamite" also set numerous records upon its release. It was the first song by a Korean artist to debut at #1 on Spotify's "Daily Top Songs Global" chart and recorded the highest first-day streaming numbers at the time of its release. It was also the first K-pop song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.

With "Dynamite," BTS rewrote the history of Korean popular music. They became the first Korean act to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where they held the position longer than any other K-pop artist. Additionally, they garnered global attention as the first Korean pop act to be nominated for a Grammy Award, one of the four major U.S. music awards. In Japan, "Dynamite" became the first song by an international artist to exceed 800 million streams on Oricon.

"Dynamite," a lively disco-pop track, features an infectious rhythm and upbeat, dynamic performances. Despite being released over four years ago, the song remains beloved and is now regarded as a classic hit. At the end of last year, it was included in UPROXX's "The 100 Best Hit Songs of the Century So Far." The music video continues its record-breaking run, becoming the first BTS video to surpass 1.9 billion views on YouTube.
